| E-mail from CBC President Robert Rabinovitch to staff of the domestic radio and television service and to RCI staff April 18, 2001 RADIO CANADA INTERNATIONAL In the context of Louise Tremblay's departure next month, I am announcing today that Radio Canada International (RCI) will report jointly to Louise Tremblay, Senior Vice-President, Resources, and Sylvain Lafrance, Vice-President, CBC French Radio and New Media, effective immediately. This transition period will continue until the end of May. RCI will report directly to Sylvain as of June 1, 2001. Last March 30, the Canadian Heritage Department and CBC signed a contribution agreement for RCI. This renewal is valid for one year. The Corporation is pleased with the signing of this agreement. RCI will continue to broadcast in Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish, as well as to rebroadcast CBC and Radio-Canada programs abroad. Over the next year, we will undertake a fundamental re-evaluation of our international service and its mandate in the new multi-media environment. In cooperation with the government, we will determine the needs of and our obligations as Canada's public broadcaster with respect to our audiences abroad. Robert Rabinovitch President and CEO ****************** Le 18 avril 2001 RADIO CANADA INTERNATIONAL Compte tenu du départ prochain de Louise Tremblay, j'aimerais vous informer que Radio Canada International (RCI) relèvera conjointement de Louise Tremblay, première vice-présidente aux ressources, et de Sylvain Lafrance, vice-président de la Radio française et responsable des nouveaux médias, et ce dès aujourd'hui. Cette période de transition se terminera à la fin mai. RCI relèvera directement de Sylvain à compter du 1er juin 2001. Le 30 mars dernier, le ministère du Patrimoine canadien et Radio-Canada ont signé une entente de contribution pour ce qui a trait au financement de RCI. Ce renouvellement est valable pour un an. La Société est très satisfaite de la signature de cette entente. RCI continuera de diffuser à l'étranger des émissions en arabe, en chinois, en russe, en ukrainien et en espagnol, ainsi que de rediffuser des émissions provenant des services français et anglais de Radio-Canada. Au cours de la prochaine année, nous entreprendrons un examen en profondeur de notre service international et de son mandat dans le nouveau paysage audiovisuel. Avec le gouvernement, nous établirons les besoins et les obligations du radiodiffuseur public national à l'égard de nos auditoires à l'étranger.
